After all the positivity of my previous skin post, things have gone from bad to worse. There's not even an appropriate emoji to demonstrate how sad it is making me.
After a week long course of antibiotics, things did seem to improve. The redness did reduce, the flakiness (SO GROSS) got better and my skin wasn't feeling as tight. It started to look like there was a light at the end if the tunnel... until the antibiotics stopped. Since then the whole thing has come back with a vengeance.
More red than ever, more flakey than ever and with a feeling that my face is going to break everytime I smile, I went back to the doctors where they told me to continue to use the mild steroid cream I have. Needless to say this has not helped in the slightest.
At my whits end, I requested a call from an alternative doctor on Friday and he could not have been more helpful. Turns out my prescriptions have been for a form of dermatitis, not perioral eczema which he confirmed (as much as he could over the phone) is what I'm suffering from. Taking the decision to refer me to my surgery's skin specialist to confirm in person (knowing they have one would have been mega handy about three months ago!), he said it I likely that I'll need a longer course of antibiotics. By longer course he meant THREE MONTHS. Three effing months.
Now, I didn't think it was appropriate to ask the 'can I drink on them' question, but the next few month are looking considerably tame. It could be a blessing in disguise - if this doesn't work then the only thing left is to drown my sorrows in a bucket of alcohol.
